CYCLONES "FLASH" AT THE Junior Olympic Meet in Plantation !
The Cyclones Swim Team
concluded their 2008 long-course season with the Florida Gold Coast Junior
Olympic Meet at the Plantation Aquatic Complex on the weekend of July 24th
through 27th. The Cyclones, represented by twenty-seven of their
elite swimmers, finished with 157 points. They placed fourteenth out of
forty-five teams at the meet.
Two Cyclone swimmers took
home individual high point
awards. Max Fons took third overall in the boys’ 13-14 category.
Chloe Gerena finished third overall in the girls’ 10 & under category.
Max made finals in six of his seven events and finished with two
individual event victories. He took first place in the 200-meter butterfly
(2:20.00 AAA) and the 1500-meter freestyle (17:23.57 AAAA). Max also took
third place in the 200-meter freestyle (2:04.06 AAAA), 800-meter freestyle
(9:12.38 AAAA) and 400-meter IM (5:06.28 AAA) and fifth place in the
400-meter freestyle (4:26.50 AAAA). Chloe made finals in all seven
of her events. She finished first in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:30.05
AAAA). Chloe dropped 18.66 seconds to take second in the 400-meter
freestyle (5:24.81 AAA). She also took second in the 100-meter butterfly
(1:23.49 AAA), third in the 50-meter breaststroke (42.74 AAA), 4th
place in the 200-meter IM (2:53.43 AAAA), fifth in the 200-meter freestyle
(2:36.46 AAA) and seventh in the 100-meter freestyle (1:13.84 AAA).
Also making finals for
the Cyclones were Drew Fons, Aiden Goldberg, Rachel Gross,
Jennifer Ryan, Flavia Segatto and Sarah Shah.

Sarah
made finals in five of her seven events. She finished with best times
in each of her events. Sarah took fifth place in the girls’ 10 & U
100-meter butterfly (1:25.88 AAA). She finished sixth in both the
400-meter freestyle (5:39.30 AA), dropping her time by 22.93 seconds,
and 100-meter backstroke (1:27.68 AA). She finished seventh in the
200-meter freestyle (2:38.32 AAA), dropping 11.72 seconds from her prior
best time, and eighth in the 200-meter IM (3:00.45 AAA).

Flavia made
finals in four of her seven events. She took third place in both the
800-meter freestyle (9:35.58 AAA) and 200-meter butterfly (2:30.23
AAA). She dropped her 800-free time by 5.30 seconds. Flavia took fifth
place in the 400-meter freestyle (4:38.55 AAA), improving her time by
6.06 seconds, and eighth in the 400-meter IM (5:28.74 AA).

Rachel turned in
a great race in the girls’ 13-14 1500-meter freestyle (18:46.94 AAA).
She finished second and bettered her time by 22.77 seconds. She also
took fourth place in the 800-meter freestyle (9:48.55 AAA).

Jen
ended a great long course season by making finals in two of her events
at JO’s. She took eighth place in both the 400-meter IM (5:40.60 A)
and 200-meter butterfly (2:38.07 A).

Drew
had a great race in the boys’ 15-16 1500-meter freestyle (17:56.04 AA),
finishing in sixth place.

Aiden
had an outstanding swim in the boys’ 11-12 200-meter breaststroke
(3:04.96 AA). He finished fifth and dropped his time by 15.33 seconds.

Juli
concluded an outstanding season with a great meet. She qualified for
finals in the girls’ 11-12 200-meter butterfly (2:48.93 AA) but,
unfortunately was DQ’d in finals.
There were several other
highlights for the Cyclones. The Girls’ 10 & U relay team (Star Fassler,
Chloe Gerena, Sarah Shah and Sydney Stewart) did a
great job representing the Cyclones. The girls took second place in the
200-meter medley relay (Shah, Gerena, Stewart, Fassler) and broke a four
year old team record with a time of 2:38.17. The girls took third place in
the 200-meter freestyle relay (2:18.32).
The Girls’ 13-14 relay
teams broke two team records. The 200-freestyle relay team of Brianna
Schlunaker, Erika Fassler, Caitlin Gerena and Logan
Snider finished in tenth place with a time of 2:02.69. The 200-medley
relay team (Gerena, Fassler, Snider, Schlunaker) took fourteenth with a time
of 2:21.67.
CYCLONES "ROAR" AT THE Division II South MEET in Miami !
The Cooper City Cyclones Swim Team continued
to gear up for the finish of their 2008 long course season with the Division
II Championship Meet at
Tamiami
Park on the weekend of July 11th through 13th. The
Division II Meet is the last chance for swimmers to earn a Junior Olympic
qualifying time and compete in the Junior Olympic championship meet later in
July. Forty Cyclones took part in the meet .
The Cyclones combined for sixteen new Junior
Olympic qualifying times and eleven first place finishes. Twenty-three
Cyclones made finals.
The following Cyclones had outstanding
meets:

Juliann Plasencia finished with two new JO cuts and three first
place finishes. She took first place and earned a Junior Olympic
cut with an outstanding swim in the girls’ 12 & U 200-meter backstroke
(2:51.09 AA). Juli dropped her time by 23.84 seconds. In her first
time competing in the event, she grabbed a second JO cut and also took
first place in the 12 & U 200-meter butterfly (2:48.34 AA. Juli also
swam the 14 & U 1500-meter freestyle for the first time and took first
place with a time of 20:16.18). Juli took second and dropped 19.15
seconds from her previous time in the 14 & U 400-meter IM (5:58.24.

Jordan Cook
earned her first two Junior Olympic qualifying times at the
meet. She finished first and grabbed a JO cut in the 10 & U 100-meter
butterfly (1:36.33 A). Jordan turned in a great swim at finals in the
200-meter freestyle (2:58.20 A) to finish fifth.

Jessie Ankney
also finished with
two new Junior Olympic qualifying times at the meet. She finished
first and earned a JO cut with an outstanding swim in the 11-14
200-meter backstroke (2:48.34 A). She grabbed a second Junior Olympic
cut with a first place finish in the 100-meter backstroke (1:18.63 A),
dropping her time by 2.13 seconds.

Jeffrey Chmura
added to his list of
11-12 JO times with two new Junior Olympic cuts. Jeff
finished second and dropped 4.01 seconds in the 100-meter butterfly,
turning in a JO qualifying time of 1:23.99. He earned a second JO cut
with a fourth place finish in the 200-meter IM (3:04.84.

Star Fassler
also added two new 10 & U Junior Olympic cuts at the meet. She
took first place and grabbed a JO cut in the 50-meter breaststroke
(48.29 A). She finished second and earned another Junior Olympic time
in the 200-meter IM (3:18.68 A). Star also took first and just missed a
JO cut in the 50-meter backstroke (44.44).

Michael Shah
earned two new JO cuts. He dropped 4.76 seconds and earned a Junior
Olympic time in the 11-12 200-meter IM (3:02.12). He made a second JO
qualifying time in the 100-meter butterfly (1:24.80).

Drew Fons, Krista Gomes, Sarah Shah
and Sydney Stewart
each earned a JO cut. Drew had a great 1500-meter freestyle
(17:56.57 AA) , finishing first and dropping more than one minute and
fifty five seconds from his previous best. Drew also took second and
dropped 13.69 seconds in the 400-meter IM (5:31.59). Krista took first
and earned an 11-12 JO cut in the 12 & U 50-meter butterfly (35.93 A).
Sarah took first and picked up a JO qualifying time in the 10 & U
50-meter backstroke (41.71 A). She took second and just missed a JO
time in the 50-meter breaststroke (48.44).
Sydney took second and earned a JO time in the 10 & U 100-meter
freestyle (1:20.40 A).
